Cucumber Kholodok

Technical profile of the 'Kholodok' cucumber

The 'Kholodok' cucumber by Agrofiirma Aelita is a parthenocarpic hybrid designed by breeders V. G. Kachaynik, M. N. Gulkin, and G. V. Golovko for high-performance cultivation in both glass greenhouses and open field environments. As a vegetative-type plant, it requires specific management to maximize output.

Biological robustness and resistance

The core of this hybrid is its built-in genetic resistance, which serves as a biological safeguard. The plant shows strong tolerance to downy mildew (peronosporosis) and fusarium wilt. Furthermore, its resistance to powdery mildew significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications, making it a reliable choice for sustainable farming practices. This robust immunity is essential for maintaining crop integrity under varying greenhouse humidity levels and fluctuating field temperatures.

Yield and fruit specifications

• Cycle: Early-mid maturation with fruiting beginning 45–50 days after germination.
• Fruit dimensions: The fruits measure 15–20 cm in length, fitting the salad cucumber category.
• Aesthetics: The deep green, large-tubercle surface provides excellent marketability and high durability for transport.

Because it is a parthenocarpic hybrid, 'Kholodok' ensures high fruit set efficiency without the need for pollinating insects. This makes it an ideal engineering solution for modern glass greenhouses where microclimate control is strictly managed.
