Orshanets: A Strategic Choice in Ukrainian Maize Breeding

The maize hybrid "Orshanets" is a testament to the high-level collaboration between Ukraine's scientific institutions, including the Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS and the Antaria company. Positioned as a simple grain-type hybrid, it has earned a reputation among local producers as a stable and resilient option for intensive grain production.

Agronomic Robustness and Resistance

In the face of increasing environmental pressures, the Orshanets hybrid offers a significant advantage through its built-in genetic protection. It has been specifically bred to withstand the most common agricultural challenges that threaten yield stability:

• Common and head smut;
• Fusarium ear and stalk rot;
• European corn borer.

By minimizing the impact of these diseases and pests, Orshanets allows farmers to maintain consistent yield levels with reduced dependency on chemical treatments, supporting a more sustainable production model.

Market Performance

With a FAO range of 90–1240, the hybrid displays remarkable flexibility, allowing it to adapt to various soil and climatic conditions across Ukraine. Being a simple hybrid, it ensures crop uniformity, which is critical for efficient harvest management. For producers prioritizing proven local genetics that deliver predictable grain yields, Orshanets remains a reliable asset in the field, reflecting years of rigorous selection and practical testing by the Ukrainian agronomic community.
