Field Strategy of LG31281: Adaptability Under Stress

French breeding by Limagrain Europe entered the Ukrainian state register in 2026 with LG31281, a hybrid designed specifically to counter the volatile climate of recent years. This first-generation (F1) hybrid demonstrates a level of plasticity atypical for many European lines, allowing agronomists to mitigate risks in moisture-deficient zones.

Response to Drought and Temperature Fluctuations

The key feature of LG31281 is its ability to maintain metabolic activity during extreme heat. In field conditions, the hybrid exhibits a high level of the "stay-green" effect: even during early summer heatwaves, the leaf canopy remains functional for longer, which is critical for grain filling. The root system is characterized by aggressive early-stage development, allowing the plant to efficiently access moisture from deeper soil horizons.

Phytosanitary Profile and Lodging Resistance

Limagrain breeders focused on comprehensive protection against pathogens common in intensive farming. The hybrid demonstrates:

• High tolerance to ear and stalk fusarium, reducing the risk of mycotoxin accumulation.
• Resistance to common smut, which is particularly relevant for high-density plantings.
• High stalk strength: the hybrid shows excellent resistance to lodging even during late harvests, providing agronomists with a "maneuvering window" in case of prolonged autumn rains.

LG31281 shows stable performance across various soil and climatic zones in Ukraine, featuring rapid grain moisture loss during maturation. This makes it an optimal choice for farms focused on reducing post-harvest drying costs.
