Maize CELESTRA

Consistent popcorn hybrid for professional farming

In the niche of popcorn production, the standards for grain quality are significantly higher than for standard dent corn. Monsanto Celestra is a choice for growers who prioritize consistent popping expansion over sheer volume. With a maturity cycle of 90–100 days, this simple hybrid fits perfectly into intensive crop rotations, allowing for timely harvesting before the autumn weather risks emerge.

Operational insights

Working with Celestra requires attention to detail during harvesting. Because it is a popping variety, the grain structure is dense and prone to damage if the combine settings are too aggressive. We suggest reducing drum speed to prevent micro-cracks; even minor damage to the pericarp will lead to poor popping performance later on.

• Hybrid type: Simple cross, ensuring uniform field emergence and growth.
• Maturity: 90–100 days, providing a reliable window for high-quality grain development.
• Primary use: Popcorn, requiring careful post-harvest drying management.

In the field, the hybrid performs with great stability and good dry-down rates at the end of the season, which simplifies logistics for the operator. The key to handling Monsanto's US genetics is precise moisture control during storage. Maintaining the correct moisture levels is the single most important factor in ensuring the grain pops perfectly. For growers looking for predictability in the popcorn segment, this hybrid remains a reliable choice.
