Maize 3229

Genetic Potential and SH2 Technology

The 3229 hybrid, developed by French breeder Laboulet Semences, represents a specialized product within the SH2 (Sugary Enhanced) class. Unlike standard sweet corn, this hybrid accumulates significantly higher sugar concentrations that convert to starch at a much slower rate post-harvest. From a technological standpoint, this extends the harvest window and ensures superior organoleptic properties, which is essential for market-ready produce.

Agronomic Features and Grain Morphology

The visual profile of the 3229 hybrid is defined by its vibrant yellow kernels, which maintain their commercial appeal even after prolonged transit. As the originator, Zeainvent Trnava S.R.O. ensures that the breeding material adheres to strict European quality standards. Physiologically, the hybrid is optimized for intensive farming systems, requiring precise moisture management to fully unlock the potential of its SH2 genotype.

Application Scope: From Fresh Market to Processing

The 3229 hybrid offers remarkable versatility across the supply chain:

• Fresh Market: Due to its high sugar content and dense texture, 3229 is highly sought after in the premium vegetable segment.
• Processing: The structural stability of the kernel during heat treatment makes it an ideal candidate for freezing and canning, where maintaining both the integrity of the grain shape and the flavor profile is paramount.

Integrating 3229 into a production program enables growers to diversify their sales channels, effectively leveraging a single crop for two highly profitable sectors.
