The Oxana chrysanthemum is a perennial plant from the Asteraceae family, valued for its beautiful shape and long flowering period. This variety belongs to the group of potted medium-flowered chrysanthemums and reaches a height of 50 to 80 centimeters. The bushes are dense, sturdy, with lush foliage and well-branched shoots. The leaves are lobed, resembling oak leaves in shape, colored green or dark green, which gives the plant decorative appeal even outside the flowering period. The flowers are of medium size, with a diameter of 7-10 centimeters, double-flowered, resembling daisies with a greenish center, creating an impressive appearance.
The Oxana chrysanthemum flowering begins at the end of September and continues until the first frosts, making it one of the latest-flowering crops. The lush inflorescences emit a characteristic bitter-sage-like aroma, associated with autumn and evoking nostalgic memories. Due to its unpretentiousness, the chrysanthemum easily establishes itself after transplanting and can be grown both in pots and in open flower beds. For successful growth and flowering, the plant requires a sunny location, infrequent watering, timely cutting of withered flowers, and weed removal.
In spring, the chrysanthemum can be planted in open ground, where it will grow throughout the summer and delight with abundant flowering in autumn. During winter, it is recommended to dig up the plant and place it in a pot for overwintering in a light and cool room, such as a cellar or on a cold windowsill, with moderate watering once a month. Under favorable conditions, some varieties can overwinter in the ground under cover, however, in our latitudes, chrysanthemums are more often grown as annual plants. To protect from frost, with the onset of cold, the stems are cut down to 10-15 centimeters and covered with dry soil, peat, or leaves, and then covered with agrofabric or plastic film.
