Chrysanthemum Hermitage

Varietal Characteristics and Selection

The 'Hermitage' chrysanthemum is a high-performance cultivar developed by the Nikita Botanical Gardens (NBS-NNSC RAS). Its defining feature is the spider-type inflorescence, which, paired with a flower diameter exceeding 10 cm, offers a distinct aesthetic suitable for high-end floral markets. Standing over 60 cm tall, this plant is specifically classified for cut-flower production and decorative landscape use.

Farm Management and Operational Scenarios

• Cut Flower Production: The cultivar is designed for professional greenhouses and outdoor cultivation targeting the October market. Given its medium-late flowering cycle, it fills a critical gap for fresh premium blooms when summer varieties have faded. Its long, sturdy stems facilitate ease of post-harvest handling and bouquet arrangement.
• Landscape Integration: In garden settings, the height of this variety makes it an ideal choice for the rear tiers of autumn-themed borders. To maintain its decorative impact, agricultural management must include robust support structures (staking) to prevent lodging during wind-prone October weather.

For growers focusing on maximum bloom size, nutrition management is paramount. Reducing nitrogen input during the budding stage and balancing potassium levels will ensure the structural integrity of the spider-shaped petals and help the plant reach its full potential of 10+ cm in diameter.
