Irena

Cherry variety Irena — a new late Czech selection developed by the fruit breeding research institute Holovousy s.r.o. Trees are medium-sized with well-branched, not overly dense crowns, quickly enter fruiting and are characterized by high yields. The variety is resistant to diseases and frost, and its late flowering allows it to withstand spring frosts well, which is especially important for maintaining yield.

Fruits of cherry Irena are large, weighing about 10-12 grams, heart-shaped with a strong gloss. Their color changes from dark red to dark black with a slight brownish tint when fully ripe. The flesh is firm, slightly gritty, sweet, and very tasty, making them attractive both for commercial cultivation and for home gardeners. Fruits ripen simultaneously and evenly, hold well on the tree, and transport well. A distinctive feature of the variety is high berry density and low susceptibility to cracking, which is rare among such firm fruits.

Variety Irena is an excellent pollinator for cherry Regina, with matching flowering and ripening periods. The fruit stalks are long, facilitating harvesting. Due to its qualities and mutual pollination compatibility with Regina, variety Irena is valued for both its high fruit quality and its potential use in mixed plantings to increase yield and fruiting stability.
