Epos Cherry — an early, high-yielding variety, distinguished by large dark-red fruits of heart-shaped or flattened-round form weighing about 9-10 grams. The flesh is juicy, tender, sweet with a distinct cherry-plum aroma and a tangy-sweet taste. The pit is small and easily separates from the flesh, making the fruits convenient for fresh consumption and various preservation methods. The juice of the berries has a rich red or dark-red color, and the sensory evaluation of flavor quality reaches 4.7 out of 5 possible points.
The Epos variety was developed through selection at the Donetsk Experimental Fruit Farm by crossing cherry and plum varieties, which ensured its high adaptability and disease resistance. The trees are medium-sized with spreading, broadly oval crowns and thick gray-brown branches. Plants begin fruiting on the 3rd-4th year after planting. The harvest period falls in the last decade of June, allowing for earlier harvest than many other varieties.
Epos is recommended for cultivation in moderate-climate regions, including the North Caucasus region and Astrakhan Oblast. Due to its high vitamin content and good storability, this variety is suitable for both home gardeners and commercial cultivation. Its resistance to adverse conditions and excellent flavor qualities make Epos popular among gardeners.
