Violet Lace is a savoy cabbage variety distinguished by its beauty and beneficial properties. This variety is a rarity among predominantly green-leafed cabbages due to its unique violet-green hue and frilled, thin leaves with a finely bubbly structure. The heads are large, dense, slightly flattened, weighing from 2 to 2.2 kg. The cabbage has a soft and tender taste, making it ideal for dietary food thanks to its low caloric content, high protein content, tender fiber, and the presence of the anti-diabetic component mannitol.
The maturity period is late — from germination to technical maturity takes from 130 to 170 days. The variety is resistant to cracking and suitable for short-term storage: a cut head retains freshness for no more than 1-1.5 months, however, on the root the cabbage can be stored significantly longer. Violet Lace grows well on fertile, well-drained soils with a neutral reaction, prefers sunny areas and does not tolerate shading.
Cabbage growing is usually carried out through seedlings, which are planted at an age of 50-55 days with a spacing of 60x60 cm. The optimal temperature for growing is in the range of +15 to +28°C during the day and +12-14°C at night. During the growth period, plants require regular abundant watering, timely weeding, loosening, and feeding with mineral fertilizers, especially nitrogen and potassium, as well as micro-fertilizers with magnesium and boron. A few days before planting, seedlings are hardened to increase their resistance to environmental conditions.
