Fripe is an ornamental annual variety of cabbage that stands out for its attractive foliage and compact size. The plant reaches a height of 15 to 60 cm and forms a rosette of rounded, heavily ruffled, and fluffy leaves with an unusual mixed coloring. Outer leaves are usually green, while inner leaves may have cream, yellow, pink, or red hues, giving the plant special decorativeness and making it popular for decorating garden borders and group plantings, as well as for growing in pots and vases.
Fripe prefers sunny locations and well-drained soils, which promotes healthy growth and development. The plant is cold-hardy and easily withstands frost, which extends the growing season in open ground. Seeds are sown in May directly into the soil or through seedlings, which are planted at the end of March – beginning of April. Decorative heads form as early as July, allowing you to enjoy bright and original foliage throughout the season.
In addition to decorative qualities, Fripe possesses all the advantages of cabbage, including beneficial nutritional properties. Its leaves are tender and lack tough veins, making them suitable for culinary use, for example, in making stuffed cabbage rolls and pies. The plant is drought-resistant and pest-resistant, which simplifies care and increases the chances of successful cultivation.
