Viola Kohlrabi: Korean excellence for the fresh market

In the niche vegetable market, kohlrabi holds a unique position, and the "Viola" variety from Asia Seed is a prime example of how Korean breeding emphasizes high-quality produce. Unlike standard light-green varieties, this hybrid draws immediate attention with its deep purple hue, which remains vivid even after cooking, providing excellent culinary versatility.

Key advantages and features

• Early Maturity: With a vegetative period of 50–60 days, this variety ensures quick turnaround, especially when using transplants.
• Uniform Shape: The round-to-oval shape of the stem tuber makes it highly convenient for logistics and retail presentation.
• Gastronomic Quality: The flesh remains crisp and tender, lacking the woody fibers often found in inferior varieties, which is essential for fresh market sales.

Developed by Lim Chahju, the "Viola" hybrid balances visual appeal with superior flavor. The market value lies in the contrast between the purple outer skin and the bright, succulent white interior, allowing it to stand out on retail shelves among more common, mundane options.

Growing tips for professionals

Viola is sensitive to water consistency. Irregular irrigation during the growth cycle can lead to growth stunting or a loss of delicate texture. This hybrid is best suited for commercial growers who supply gourmet restaurants or specialized fresh produce markets, where appearance and texture are top priorities. By incorporating Viola, farmers can effectively diversify their inventory with a premium, visually striking product that meets the demands of modern culinary professionals.
