Cabbage GARAT

Long-term Storage Strategy

Selecting a cabbage variety for storage is a critical decision for any vegetable producer. The "Garat" variety, developed by the Gavrish Breeding Firm in collaboration with the Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production (VNIISSOK) and breeder Dmitry Gladkov, is specifically designed for operations that target the late-winter and spring market, when fresh supply is at its lowest and prices are at their peak.

Practical Applications and Farm Management

• Extended Supply Window. With a shelf life of 10–12 months, this variety ensures consistent availability of fresh produce long after the harvest season has ended.
• Processing Capabilities. The dense structure and uniform round-oval shape make it an excellent candidate for commercial processing, providing a high yield of usable product after trimming.
• Fresh Market Consistency. Featuring a classic green color, the heads are well-suited for standard packing in nets or crates, meeting the aesthetic expectations of retailers and consumers alike.

For agronomists, "Garat" is a reliable tool for scaling supply. Its primary strength lies in its exceptional storability. To maximize performance, it is essential to manage technical maturity correctly prior to the first hard frosts. When kept in standard cold storage conditions, the variety maintains leaf quality and minimal weight loss for nearly a full calendar year. It is an ideal choice for farms aiming to minimize the volatility of seasonal market prices through a structured storage strategy.
