Description Rubin
Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Rubin' is a late-season variety distinguished by its high yield of up to 350 grams from a single evergreen bush. The plant is compact, reaching a height of no more than 20–25 cm and a width of about 25 cm, featuring dense bushes with numerous canes. The leaves are small, smooth, glossy, elliptical in shape, and dark green, maintaining their decorative appearance throughout the year.

Fruiting begins in the second year after planting – in late August to September. The berries are round, initially greenish-white, then becoming shiny dark red. Each berry weighs 0.25–0.4 grams, with dark red skin, a tart-sweet, and pleasant dessert flavor.

'Rubin' withstands cold exceptionally well: it endures frost down to –33 °C under snow, with a minimum growing temperature of –28 °C. The plant is light-loving but also tolerant of partial shade, prefers acidic, loose soils, and moderate watering; it does not tolerate waterlogging. Soil acidity can be increased using forest pine needles, bark, granulated sulfur, and other oxidizers. Disease resistance is high, so bush care is minimal.

It is ideal for sunny and indoor garden plots, where it creates a dense green cover and delights with bright berries throughout the season. Due to its compact size and decorative foliage, 'Rubin' becomes an excellent element of landscape design, combining utility with aesthetic appeal.
