POMEGRANATE BASIL

Basil variety 'Pomegranate Ball' is an annual ornamental and aromatic herb with medicinal properties. The bushes are compact, densely leafy, reaching heights from 15 to 50 cm, with sturdy stems and dark purple leaves resembling the hue of a pomegranate. Flowers are dark pink and gathered into dense spherical inflorescences up to 6-7 cm in diameter, giving the plant decorative appeal and making it an excellent decoration for lawns, balconies, and containers.

This basil variety is distinguished by its rich spicy aroma with notes of clove and pepper, and its flavor has a piquant spicy heat. Thanks to these qualities, 'Pomegranate Ball' is widely used in cuisine: it is added to fresh salads, meat and vegetable dishes, sauces, soups, and drinks. Leaves can be dried or frozen while preserving their aroma and flavor. The plant is suitable for cultivation in open ground, greenhouses, as well as at home on windowsills and balconies.

The maturity period is from 42 to 60 days after germination. To improve bushiness, it is recommended to pinch the tops after the appearance of 5-6 leaves. The plant is frost-hardy and relatively easy to care for, but requires regular watering without over-wetting, soil loosening, and weed removal. The variety is resistant to most diseases, but at increased humidity it may be affected by fungal infections. To protect against pests such as aphids, spider mites, and slugs, appropriate measures are applied, including insecticide treatment and mulching.
