Barley SY LOONA

Swiss breeding for high-yield farming

The winter barley SI Luna by Syngenta is a six-row hybrid specifically engineered for intensive agricultural production. In a market where efficiency and per-hectare performance are paramount, this hybrid stands out due to its genetic resilience and balanced morphological profile.

Key characteristics and yield potential

• Plant type: Winter six-row barley.
• Morphology: Compact stems (60–70 cm in height) provide excellent lodging resistance, even when high rates of nitrogen fertilizer are applied.
• Grain quality: A high thousand-kernel weight (48–50 grams), indicating plump, well-filled grains and high output of marketable product.

Syngenta’s breeding team focused on developing a crop capable of realizing its full genetic potential across diverse soil and climate zones. The short stature of the plants serves a dual purpose: it protects the crop from lodging and allows the plant to channel nutrients directly into the grain rather than wasting energy on excessive vegetative biomass.

Practical application

SI Luna delivers predictable and stable results when optimal planting timelines are respected. This hybrid represents Syngenta’s commitment to providing farmers with reliable tools for securing high-quality feed and food-grade grain. Its flexibility allows the crop to adapt well to the spring regrowth phase, which is vital in unpredictable weather scenarios. Utilizing SI Luna allows growers to mitigate harvest risks, thanks to its robust root system and rapid development during early growth stages, ensuring a strong start to the season.
