The Flavia sunflower hybrid, developed by the Syngenta seed brand, is intended for cultivation in steppe regions with extreme climatic conditions, characterized by high solar activity and water deficit. This hybrid features a medium-early maturity period and high yield potential, reaching up to 5.5 tons per hectare, making it an attractive choice for Central and Northern Steppe regions of Ukraine.
Flavia exhibits high resistance to major sunflower diseases, including downy mildew (races A-G), false powdery mildew, and Phomopsis, as well as good drought and heat tolerance. Thanks to the Clearfield Plus technology, the hybrid is resistant to volunteer weeds, ensuring stable yields even under challenging agro-climatic conditions. Its high oil content in seeds — from 51 to 54% — and significant oleic acid content (up to 88%) make this hybrid valuable for producing high-quality sunflower oil.
For optimal growth and maximum yield, it is recommended to maintain a specific planting density: 35–40 thousand plants per hectare under low moisture conditions, and 40–45 thousand plants per hectare under moderate moisture. Good pollen availability promotes effective pollination and seed formation. All these characteristics make Flavia a reliable and high-yielding hybrid for cultivation in steppe regions.
