Melia is a medium-maturing, six-row winter barley variety of intensive type, characterized by high adaptability and resistance to adverse conditions. It exhibits excellent resistance to lodging, ensuring stable yields even under unfavorable weather conditions. The variety shows high drought tolerance throughout its entire vegetation period, making it suitable for cultivation in various regions of Ukraine, including Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Poltava, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Chmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions.
Melia is characterized by high resistance to diseases, particularly powdery mildew and rust, which significantly reduces yield losses and the need for frequent fungicide applications. The variety has a high tillering capacity, promoting the formation of a dense and robust plant mass. Its medium-early maturity and medium-late heading allow for effective planning of agronomic practices and harvest timing. The yield potential ranges from 7 to 10 tons per hectare, and the protein content in grain reaches 13.3%, making Melia attractive for fodder use.
For sowing, the recommended seeding rate varies depending on the timing: early sowing (September 10–15) — 2.8–3.0 million seeds per hectare, optimal (September 20–30) — 3.0–3.2 million/ha, late (October 5–10) — 3.4–3.6 million/ha. The 1000-seed mass varies from 52 to 60 grams. Seeds are packaged in 20- and 40-kilogram bags. Due to its characteristics, Melia is a reliable choice for intensive agriculture, ensuring high yields and grain quality with minimal risks.
