OGONKOVSKIY

OGONKOVSKIY is a winter barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety characterized by a medium-early maturity period and a multi-row spike structure. The grain is semi-elongated with a 1000-grain mass of 32 to 38 grams and a thousand-kernel weight of 665-685 g/l. Plants stand 56 to 90 cm tall, have an upright stalk, a loose spike with long serrated awns, and well-expressed nervation of the floral lemma. The variety is resistant to lodging, shattering, and fungal diseases, ensuring harvest stability and high grain quality. Protein content in the grain is 11.1-12.4%, making it valuable for grain-forage use.

This barley is distinguished by high yield: on dryland it reaches 40-55 c/ha, and on irrigated land — 46-69 c/ha. Due to its biological features, the variety effectively utilizes autumn-winter precipitation and can produce a higher yield compared to spring varieties. Winter barley OGONKOVSKIY matures 8-12 days earlier than winter wheat, allowing for optimized harvest timing and reduced risks associated with adverse weather conditions.

For successful cultivation, fertile soils such as chernozem and cohesive types are important, while acidic, saline, and sandy soils are unsuitable. Barley is moisture-loving but reacts negatively to excess moisture, preferring moderate moisture supply, which is related to its intensive spring development and short vegetative period. The optimal temperature for seed germination is 19-20 °C, but seedlings may appear at 3-4 °C. Due to resistance to diseases and lodging, as well as high adaptability to growing conditions, the OGONKOVSKIY variety is a reliable choice for grain-forage production.
