Astrantia peony-flowered 'Zefir' is an annual plant with sprawling branched bushes up to 55 cm high and about 45 cm wide. The flowering stems reach a length of 40 cm and bear sturdy wide inflorescences of about 10 cm in diameter in white color. Up to 20 inflorescences can be located on one bush at the same time, which makes the variety an excellent choice for decorating flower beds and use in cut flowers.
The plant is characterized by a mid-early flowering period, which lasts from July to November. 'Astrantia Zefir' is distinguished by high frost resistance and love for light, capable of withstanding brief frosts. It grows well on various soils, but does not tolerate waterlogging and drought. For propagation, seedling and direct-sowing methods are used; in this case, seeds are recommended to be soaked in a solution of microelements or a growth stimulant for 24 hours before sowing, then washed and dried.
Seedling cultivation is conducted at a temperature of about 15 degrees with intensive lighting, and transplanting into the ground is carried out in May with a distance between plants of 20-30 cm. Sowing seeds in open ground is possible in late April or May. Cut flowers maintain freshness in water for 14-18 days, which makes them attractive for use in bouquets and decorative compositions.
