Description Ametist
Astilbe 'Amethyst' – a perennial shrub growing 80–110 cm tall and 50–80 cm wide with dark green glossy leaves that create a dense, spreading foliage cover. The amethyst-purple flowers cluster into large, fluffy panicles up to 30 cm long and 10–15 cm in diameter, rising above the bush to add a vibrant splash of color to the garden. The flowering period begins in late June and lasts about a month, typically until July-August.

The plant thrives in both partial shade and sunny spots but prefers moist, fertile soil with good drainage. For planting, loosened soil enriched with compost and a small amount of mineral fertilizers is recommended. After planting, the rhizomes should be laid 5–10 cm deep, then mulched with a 3–4 cm layer of compost or peat.

'Amethyst' is resistant to diseases, pests, and frosts (zones 3-6, down to -29 °C). The plant does not require cover in winter; however, it can be protected with fallen leaves in the first year after planting. During the summer season, the bush requires regular watering and moderate feeding with organic fertilizers (such as humus or potash preparations) to maintain active growth and flowering. This plant suits both as a single landscape element and as part of group plantings, where its bright inflorescences create a contrast with coniferous and shade-loving plants.

Astilbe 'Amethyst' is also valued for its ease of cutting: its large inflorescences retain shape and color when dried, making the plant popular for living bouquets and decorative compositions. Thanks to its frost resistance and low care requirements, it becomes an excellent choice for both garden plots and large containers in open ground.
