Astilbe «Düsseldorf» – a compact evergreen from the Saxifrage family, growing 40 to 60 cm tall and up to 50 cm wide. The plant is distinguished by its elegant ornamental dark green foliage and fluffy inflorescences, which can be bright red, pink, or white-pastel shades depending on the specific variety. The inflorescences form large panicles up to 30 cm long, each consisting of hundreds of tiny flowers that open sequentially, creating an effect of prolonged flowering from late June to July.
«Düsseldorf» prefers moist but not waterlogged soil, growing best in light, fertile, and slightly damp substrates. The plant tolerates partial shade and diffuse light well, but in sunny locations requires more frequent watering and spraying to maintain its ornamental value. In the first year after planting, the plant needs protection from strong winds, and then the rhizomes gradually emerge from the soil, so it is recommended to add fertile soil.
This plant is resistant to diseases and pests, requires minimal care, and is perfect for garden compositions, flower beds, wood gardens, and large containers. Thanks to its compactness and beautiful flowering, «Düsseldorf» easily combines with other perennials and can also be used as an element for cutting or drying for bouquets. For the winter period, it is recommended to dig up the rhizomes and store them in a dark, dry room to avoid waterlogging.
