Aster Zoya

Breeding Heritage and Reliability

The 'Zoya' aster is a notable result of the development work conducted by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Production. Created with the involvement of Galina Viktorovna Ostryakova, this variety was designed to address the needs of professional floriculturists and gardening enthusiasts seeking a resilient annual suitable for open-ground cultivation.

Phytopathological Defense

The core value of 'Zoya' lies in its comprehensive resistance to pathogens that typically challenge aster cultivation in temperate climates. The variety demonstrates a distinct immunity to:

• Fungal infections: verticillium wilt, mycosphaerella leaf spot, and brown leaf spot.
• Powdery mildew, which often thrives during temperature fluctuations.
• Various types of rot affecting the root system.
• Viral plant diseases that reduce aesthetic quality.

This high level of resistance significantly reduces the need for fungicide treatments, making it an excellent choice for sustainable gardening practices.

Practical Application

As an annual, 'Zoya' is not frost-hardy and does not survive the winter; its development cycle is restricted to a single growing season. It is perfectly suited for landscaping flower beds, garden borders, and cut-flower production. The fact that the plant does not need to endure harsh winters simplifies planting logistics: the aster fulfills its biological potential within one season, maintaining its decorative integrity until the arrival of severe frosts.
