Aster Polina

Elegance and Power: Why 'Polina' Dominates in Cut Flowers

The 'Polina' aster, bred by the Institute of Horticulture of the NAAS, firmly holds the status of one of the most striking cultivars in its class within Ukraine. Unlike small-flowered or simple garden varieties, this selection is designed for those who grow flowers professionally or prioritize impeccable aesthetics in floral arrangements.

Key Advantages

• Stature and Dimensions: With stems reaching 80-100 cm, this variety is ideal for high-density cutting. The plant remains sturdy, maintaining a vertical posture even during the peak of its flowering season.
• Peony-like Structure: Dense, double flower heads reaching 10-15 cm in diameter bear a striking visual resemblance to peonies. The deep purple hue adds a sense of sophistication and prestige to bouquets, a quality often missing in paler or variegated varieties.
• Transportability: Thanks to its rigid peduncle and dense petal texture, 'Polina' handles storage and long-distance transport exceptionally well, which is critical for market distribution.

Limitations and Recommendations

Like most large-flowered peony-type asters, 'Polina' is demanding regarding cultivation practices. The primary risk for the variety remains susceptibility to fungal diseases in conditions of high humidity or overcrowded planting. To unlock the full potential of its 15 cm blooms, it is essential to provide adequate soil nutrition and regular root-level irrigation; direct water contact with the flower head during the opening phase can compromise the petals' decorative quality.

Who Is This Variety For?

This is an optimal choice for professional floriculturists focused on cut flower production. The 'Polina' variety serves as a reliable workhorse for commercial bouquets, where the combination of a classic shape, saturated color, and high vase life is paramount.
