Aster Ametist

Why «Amethyst» has become a favorite among florists

In the world of annual asters, the «Amethyst» variety stands out primarily for its visual density and the «stature» of its inflorescence. Developed by breeders at the Institute of Horticulture of the NAAS of Ukraine, this variety is a prime example of how local selection masters the needle-shaped petal form.

Unlike many budget alternatives, «Amethyst» demonstrates striking uniformity in flowering. When planting in a mass on a flowerbed, you achieve a «carpet» effect: the bush height of 50–80 cm allows it to be used both in the center of an arrangement and as an accent row.

Strengths:

• Inflorescence diameter (10–15 cm): This is the variety's trump card. Compared to most analogs, «Amethyst» looks monumental.
• Needle-like texture: The petals are tightly curled, giving the flower a «starburst» effect.
• Cutting longevity: This is a key differentiator from many decorative annuals. The stem is sturdy and supports the large flower head well, making it ideal for commercial cut flower production.

Who should choose «Amethyst»?

This variety is a professional choice for those growing flowers for sale or aiming to create an eye-catching, «magazine-worthy» flowerbed. However, it is important to remember: as an annual, it will not overwinter in the soil. Its life cycle is limited to one season, so «Amethyst» requires attention to soil quality and regular irrigation to maintain the turgor of such large inflorescences.

If you are looking for a classic violet palette that does not lose its brightness under direct sunlight, this variety from the NAAS will become your reliable ally.
