Apple WINTER BAYKALOVA

The Legacy of Ivan Baykalov's Selection

The 'Zimnee Baykalova' apple variety represents a classic example of Russian amateur selection developed by Ivan Leontyevich Baykalov. This variety was designed for resilience, focusing on the ability of the tree to thrive in harsh climates while maintaining consistent productivity. The apple tree is characterized by moderate vigor and a tidy, rounded crown, which simplifies orchard management and makes it an excellent choice for compact home gardens.

Disease Resistance and Horticultural Value

A significant advantage of this variety is its genetic resistance to common apple scab. This innate defense mechanism is highly valued by growers, as it significantly reduces the need for frequent chemical treatments and supports healthier, more sustainable fruit production.

• Winter Hardiness: The variety demonstrates reliable survival rates in cold, harsh winter conditions.
• Fruit Profile: The fruits are small, weighing up to 50 grams, with a pleasant taste profile rated at 4.0 out of 5.0.
• Storage: With a shelf life of up to 1 month, this variety is intended for fresh consumption rather than long-term industrial storage.

The Ideal Garden Candidate

For growers looking for a reliable, low-maintenance variety, 'Zimnee Baykalova' offers a perfect balance of hardiness and health. While it may not compete with large-fruited industrial varieties for long-term storage, its resistance to scab and overall consistency make it a dependable asset for any fruit garden. This variety honors the traditions of local selection and provides a steady source of healthy, garden-fresh apples.
