Teroldego is an old red grape variety originating from the Trentino-Alto Adige wine region in northern Italy. This technical variety, with a medium-late ripening period, is characterized by relatively vigorous vines and medium conical clusters with a dense structure. The leaves of Teroldego are large, three-lobed, with slight down on the underside, while the berries have a round or slightly oval shape and a deep blue-black color. The flowers are hermaphroditic, which contributes to stable fruiting, although the variety has weak resistance to fungal diseases. Wines made from Teroldego are characterized by deep pigmentation and intense fruity aromas. They are soft on the palate, with relatively low acidity and tannin content, making them pleasant and accessible for consumption. The best samples of wines from this variety can be aged for up to 10 years, revealing complexity and depth of flavor. Additionally, Teroldego is often used in blends to enhance the color and aroma of wines from Tuscany and Veneto regions. This variety prefers alluvial deposits, especially in the Mezzocorona area, where it demonstrates high yield. Despite this, wines from Teroldego may have a somewhat flat taste due to low acidity and soft tannins, which requires careful winemaking to achieve optimal balance. Teroldego is an excellent choice for those who appreciate full-bodied red wines with a fruity profile and aging potential.
