Variety of Canadian origin with summer-ripening fruits. Obtained at the experimental station in Morden (Manitoba) from seedlings of Moscow's Grushovka, pollinated freely. The variety is registered in the State Register for the Central and Volga regions.
Trees of medium growth vigor, with oval, fairly sparse crowns, strong skeletal branches directed upwards. Fruit set is concentrated, primarily on spurs.
Shoots are curved, brown, with hairs and small gray stipules. Leaves are large, green, leathery, glossy, elongated-elliptical in shape, with long, pointed tips directed upwards and acute or wedge-shaped bases, without hairs, almost not curved along the midrib. Leaf blade is flat, smooth, with slightly raised, slightly wavy, serrated margins. Sometimes the leaf is keeled, and then it is more curved along the midrib and has a more wavy edge. Petiole is long, thick, deviated from the shoot, with abundant anthocyanin coloration. Stipules are small, awl-shaped. Leaf buds are medium-sized, conical, convex, hairy. One-year shoots are of medium growth vigor, with straight, almost uniformly thick stems, with fairly large stipules and slight hairiness.
Flowers are large, saucer-shaped, buds are white-pink with a purple tint, petals are light pink, elongated, appressed, stigma is short, stigma is below the anthers.
Fruits are medium-sized (or small), round-elongated, conical in shape, with slight ribbing in the upper part. Main color is greenish-yellow or yellowish when fully ripe, covering is in the form of bright red speckled-striped blush on an orange-red background. Skin is smooth, tender, thin. Calyx tube is narrow, small. Length and thickness of the pedicel vary from medium and thick to long and thin with thickening at the tip depending on the fruit's position. Calyx is small, narrow, wrinkled. Calyx is closed or semi-open, with large, sharply pointed sepals. Seed chambers are large, semi-open or open into the central cavity. Seeds are small, triangular, with a small blunt tip, dark brown in color. Subcalyx tube is conical, partially enters a small heart.
Flesh is white, juicy, tender, aromatic, sweet, with a slight sour taste, dessert quality. Chemical composition of fruits: total sugar content — 10.4%, titratable acids — 0.8%, ascorbic acid — 11.2 mg/100g, P-active substances — 371 mg/100g, pectin substances — 12.4%.
Harvesting maturity in Orel conditions occurs from late July to late August depending on the year's conditions.
Fruits ripen quickly, and the consumer period after harvest lasts no more than 10-15 days.
Variety is early-bearing; young trees are productive, but as trees age, yields become unstable, alternating from year to year. In years of abundant harvest, fruits are small. Variety is moderately winter-hardy, susceptible to scab.
Advantages of the variety: early ripening, dessert flavor of fruits.
Disadvantages of the variety: in wet years fruits and leaves are affected by scab, low fruit marketability, extended ripening period, only moderate winter hardiness of trees.
