Viral diseases

Viral plant diseases are conditions caused by phytoviruses, which are submicroscopic infectious agents consisting of genetic material (DNA or RNA) enclosed in a protein coat. Being obligate intracellular parasites, they must enter a host cell to replicate, where they disrupt normal metabolic pathways, leading to systemic physiological stress in the plant organism.

Affected plants often exhibit morphological abnormalities such as leaf curling, stunting, reduced fruit set, and abnormal seed development.
