Zucchini AFINA

Working with the Athena Zucchini

When planning a zucchini crop, finding the right balance between early maturity and disease resistance is essential. The Athena variety from Sedek is a standout, offering a bush-type habit that saves space and a rapid growth cycle, producing the first harvest just 35-40 days after germination. In intensive farming, this efficiency is a key advantage.

Development and Yield

The plant forms a compact bush, making daily maintenance, weeding, and soil aeration straightforward. The fruits feature a classic cylindrical shape and a vibrant green color. With an average weight of 200-500 grams, they are perfect for both culinary use and commercial processing. Notably, the Athena variety does not overgrow rapidly, maintaining its marketability even if harvesting is slightly delayed.

Disease Defense

The biggest challenges for zucchini growers are anthracnose and powdery mildew, which can decimate a crop in a week. The originators (Dubinin S.V., Dubinina I.N., and Lukyanenko A.N.) incorporated significant resistance to these pathogens into the Athena line. In practice, with standard agronomic care, the crop requires minimal fungicide applications, reducing input costs and helping produce cleaner, more sustainable vegetables.

Why Choose This Variety?

• Early harvest capability: ready in 35-40 days.
• Compact bush habit, easy to manage and harvest.
• Built-in resistance to common fungal diseases.
• Uniform fruit size, ideal for transport and retail.
