Moldavian Dragonhead MONGOL

Growing «Mongol» Dragonhead: A Grower’s Perspective

The «Mongol» variety of Moldavian dragonhead by SDK-SIDS is a go-to choice for those who value efficiency in spice crop production. If you are looking for a reliable plant that delivers a consistent lemon-scented yield, this is a solid candidate.

Cultivation and Maintenance

«Mongol» thrives in well-lit areas. Planting it in shaded spots significantly reduces the intensity of its essential oils, so site selection is the primary "technical" challenge. During the early development stage, the crop requires careful weeding to ensure the young plants are not crowded out. Once established, the plants are resilient and handle moderate irrigation with ease. Stable watering ensures that the inflorescences remain dense and rich in aroma.

Harvesting and Processing

The main asset of this variety is its flowers. Harvesting should be timed to the start of mass blooming when essential oil concentration is at its peak. Drying is the most crucial post-harvest step: shade drying in a well-ventilated area is mandatory to preserve the bright color and the distinct lemon profile. SDK-SIDS has done a good job with the genetics here, as the final product holds its quality well throughout the curing process.

Agronomic Efficiency

From a commercial standpoint, «Mongol» is highly effective due to its short vegetation cycle. It fits easily into almost any rotation as an intercrop. The plant shows good resistance to common spice-herb pathogens, which keeps chemical management costs low. If you are aiming for high-quality dried raw material or herbal tea blends, this variety offers a low-overhead, high-output solution.
