THORNFREE

Thornfree is a thornless blackberry variety recognized as one of the best industrial options due to its high yield and excellent transportability. Bushes grow up to four meters long, exhibit strong growth and disease resistance, making them undemanding for gardeners and commercial producers.

Thornfree fruits are large, oval-shaped, weighing 7–10 grams, and dark purple in color. They are juicy, acid-sweet, and have a pleasant taste, making them popular both fresh and when used in making jams, jellies, confitures, freezing, and desserts. Inflorescences can contain up to twenty berries.

The variety was bred in the USA in the 1960s; its commercial success is due to the absence of thorns, large fruit size, high yield (10–12 kg per bush), and pest resistance. Bushes root easily, frost resistance reaches –28 °C, and ripening occurs at the end of August–beginning of September. Despite the softness of the fruit at full maturity, Thornfree remains in demand for both industrial production and home cultivation.
