Ataman

Spring barley variety 'Ataman' is a mid-late and medium-height variety with a vegetation period ranging from 79 to 98 days. The plant is semi-straw, with a cylindrical ear of medium density and long awned awns, which have weak or medium anthocyanin coloration at the tips. The grain is large, with a non-hairy ventral groove and a lodicule that covers it. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 38 to 49 grams, indicating high grain quality. The variety is adaptive and plastic to various soil-climatic conditions, which allows it to be successfully cultivated in the Central and Central Black Earth regions, as well as in the Tulskaya, Oryol, and Tambov regions.

'Ataman' is distinguished by its resistance to lodging and medium drought resistance, which ensures crop stability under adverse weather conditions. The average yield in the Central Black Earth region is 38.3 centners per hectare, which exceeds the average standard by 2.4 centners. In the Oryol region, the variety demonstrates particularly high yield indicators – up to 54 centners per hectare, with a maximum value of 75.4 centners achieved in 2003. The variety matures 3-4 days later than the Gonar variety, but at the same time increases yield and grain quality standards.

The 'Ataman' variety has good feed and brewing qualities, which expands its application possibilities. However, it is susceptible to diseases such as helminthosporiosis and especially dusty bunt, which requires careful attention to plant protection.
