Description NOVIK
NOVIK is a medium-maturing spring barley variety (Hordeum vulgare L.) primarily intended for fodder purposes. It belongs to the multi-row group and is characterized by a vegetation period of 69 to 85 days, ripening slightly earlier or later than some standard varieties. The plant is of medium height, with an erect or semi-erect bush, resistant to lodging. The ear is cylindrical and loose, with smooth rachises and medium or strong anthocyanin coloring of the tips. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 32 to 43 grams. In terms of dry matter yield, the variety shows good results, exceeding standard varieties in some regions, while the protein content in the grain ranges from 9.9% to 14.7%. NOVIK is moderately resistant to loose smut but susceptible to covered smut and eye spot. For successful barley cultivation, NOVIK requires fertile soils, preferably chernozem and chestnut soils with neutral acidity and good aeration. The crop is demanding regarding temperature conditions, tolerating frosts down to -12°C, and develops best on weed-free fields after predecessors such as potatoes, corn, buckwheat, and legumes. The application of organic fertilizers has a positive effect on plant growth and development, which contributes to increased yield. NOVIK barley grains possess high nutritional value and can be used to make whole grain flour, natural kvass, decoctions and infusions, as well as for sprouting. Due to its low glycemic index, this barley is a healthy product for nutritious eating. Grains are grown in ecologically clean conditions, away from industrial enterprises, without the use of mineral fertilizers and agrochemistry, which ensures their high quality and long shelf life when sanitary regulations are observed.
