The Nicogreen (Malus domestica Nicogreen) is a winter, compact, bush-type apple variety developed in Belgian selection, characterized by moderate growth vigor and a rounded, compact crown. Saplings, 1.2 to 1.4 meters tall, are grafted onto MM106 rootstock, ensuring good fruiting even at an early age. This variety is resistant to cold, diseases, and pests, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic conditions.
The fruits of Nicogreen apple have a round-cylindrical shape and weigh between 150 and 200 grams. Their skin is green, and the flesh is creamy, dense, very juicy, and crisp with a harmonious sweet-sour taste. Apples are distinguished by their high vitamin C content — three times higher than other varieties, making them especially beneficial for health. The harvest ripens in early October, and fruits maintain their quality for up to the end of March under normal storage conditions and up to 6-7 months in a refrigerator.
The Nicogreen variety is early-bearing and high-yielding, allowing for a stable annual harvest. Thanks to their slow browning, the apples are ideal for fresh consumption. This variety was obtained by crossing Delbare and Estivale Granny Smith, which explains its crisp texture and slightly tart flavor. The harvest has a long storage life, allowing the fruits to be used over several months after picking.
