Crimson Sweet BB watermelon is a mid-late maturing variety developed by the Dutch seed producer Bakker Brothers. The ripening period is from 75 to 85 days after planting, allowing for harvest within relatively short timeframes. The plant forms long stems with a robust root system, providing good nutrition and high resistance to diseases such as anthracnose and fusarium. The variety is low-maintenance regarding growing conditions and watering, making it suitable for cultivation in open fields across various climatic zones, including Ukraine.
The fruits of Crimson Sweet BB are large, round or slightly elongated, weighing from 9 to 12 kg, sometimes exceeding 10 kg. The dark green rind with characteristic light stripes reliably protects the juicy, dense flesh of vibrant bright red color. The flesh has a crisp texture, a distinct watermelon aroma, and high sugar content — up to 10-11% on the Brix scale — ensuring excellent taste. Thanks to its dense rind, the fruits withstand transportation and long-term storage both in the field and in storage facilities.
The variety exhibits high yield — up to 60-80 tons per hectare or approximately 10 kg per square meter, with 2-3 melons forming per plant. Crimson Sweet BB watermelon is suitable for fresh consumption, pickling, and processing. Its stable yield and high quality make this variety popular both in fresh markets and for commercial cultivation.
