Valeriy Chkalov

Cherries of the Valeriy Chkalov variety — an early domestic variety developed through selection in the mid-20th century. The tree reaches a height of 5–6 meters and has a broad pyramidal crown. The variety is characterized by high cold resistance, tolerating temperatures down to -23°C, as well as disease resistance, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic conditions. It is recommended to plant on fertile, sunny sites protected from drafts to ensure maximum yield and fruit quality.

The fruits of Valeriy Chkalov cherries are large, round or heart-shaped, weighing from 6 to 10 grams. Their color ranges from dark red to nearly black-red when fully ripe, with a shiny and thin skin. The flesh is dense, juicy, sweet, and has a refreshing wine-like sweet flavor. The stone separates easily from the flesh, making the variety convenient for fresh consumption and processing. The juice is intensely dark red.

Fruiting begins in early June, allowing for an early harvest. The variety is characterized by high yield, which increases with the age of the tree. Due to good transportability and the attractive appearance of the fruits, Valeriy Chkalov cherries are suitable both for personal consumption and commercial cultivation. The variety is low-maintenance and grafted onto the Colt rootstock, which promotes early and stable fruiting.
