Description Gisela 5
Gisela 5 — this is a dwarf clonal rootstock for cherry and plum, developed in Germany and widely used in Europe and the USA. Trees on this rootstock reach approximately 40% of the height of trees on seedling rootstocks, which allows significantly reducing growth vigor and creating high-density orchards. Thanks to this rootstock, trees enter the fruiting period early, usually 2–3 years earlier, and reach a height of up to 2.5 meters, facilitating care and harvest.

The rootstock is frost-resistant and does not produce root suckers, which simplifies orchard care and increases its longevity. However, Gisela 5 has low drought tolerance, so it is best suited for cultivation on fertile, well-watered soils with regular irrigation. Regular pruning is required to maintain tree health and productivity.

Using the Gisela 5 rootstock allows achieving high yields — optimal load is about 14 kg of fruit per tree, and total yield can reach 45 tons per hectare. The rootstock is compatible with most modern cherry varieties, including Bigarreau, Early Burlat, Summit, and Silva, making it a universal choice for commercial orchards.
