Viburnum «Taiga Rubies» is a mid-early ripening variety with high winter hardiness and a yield of up to 10–11 kg of berries per bush. Bushes reach a height of 2 to 3.5 meters, have a compact round-oval crown, weak spreading growth, and a strong trunk. The leaves are small, five-lobed, dark green, and the bark is covered with characteristic cracks of a gray-brown hue.
The berries are round, medium-sized (0.5–0.7 g), of a rich crimson color with a thick skin. The flesh is yellowish, sweet with a slight bitterness; the taste is pleasant and slightly astringent. The fruit heads contain 40–65 berries on a shield, which ensures a good harvest. Flowering occurs in late May–early June with white-pink nectariferous flowers, and the fruits are ready for harvest from mid-September.
«Taiga Rubies» are easy to grow both in open ground and in containers. The variety is self-sterile, but to increase yield, companion viburnum varieties (such as Zholobovskaya) can be used. It is resistant to low temperatures down to –40 °C, does not require additional covering in the central strip of Russia, and withstands cold well. In a hot climate, the plant requires regular watering. To protect against pests, preventive treatment with a solution of wood ash and laundry soap is recommended; fungicides and insecticides are applied as needed. Berries can be stored in the refrigerator for several months, and during freezing they retain their taste and vitamin composition.
