Weigela is a decorative shrub that delights the garden with bright flowers throughout the summer and even blooms again at the end of the season. The shrub reaches a height of 0.8 to 1.5 m, with a width of approximately the same, forming a rounded, dense crown with a branched structure. The leaves are oval, pointed, of a rich green color and slightly glossy, about 8–10 cm long.
Weigela flowers are tubular, 3–4 cm in diameter, bright pink-red in color with a lighter center. They are gathered in inflorescences that attract bees and other insects, making the plant a valuable element of garden biodiversity. Blooming occurs at the end of spring and in early summer (May-June) with a repeat burst at the end of summer.
Weigela is easily grown both in open ground and in containers. It prefers sunny or slightly shaded places, well-drained neutral or slightly acidic soil, moderately moist and fertile. The plant is drought-resistant, cold-hardy and frost-hardy (USDA zones 4–8). Care is simple: regular watering during dry periods, feeding in spring and summer with universal fertilizers, and pruning after the last frost or after flowering to maintain shape and stimulate repeat blooming. Weigela does not require complex measures for protection against diseases and pests, but if necessary, small fruit boxes can be removed to preserve the aesthetic appearance.
It is ideal as an accent element in landscape compositions, for living fences, group plantings, mixed borders and even vertical surfaces. Thanks to its unpretentious care and bright flowering, this shrub has become a popular choice among gardeners.
