Tulip Silverado

Technical Profile and Genetic Resistance

The 'Silverado' tulip belongs to the Single Late category, defining its physiological strategy: an emphasis on robust stem formation and an extended vegetation period. Unlike early-blooming groups, this variety is optimized for late spring conditions, where temperature fluctuations demand high plant resilience.

Phytosanitary Defense Mechanisms

The core engineering feature of 'Silverado' is its genetic resistance to a complex of pathogens that typically affect bulbous crops. Breeders have successfully mitigated risks across three critical areas:

• Verticillium wilt: the plant's vascular structure blocks fungal mycelium spread, preventing xylem occlusion.
• Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV): cellular-level defense limits virus replication, preserving the integrity of the delicate pink petal pigmentation.
• Fusarium wilt: the specific architecture of the bulb's basal plate inhibits fungal infection penetration from the soil, ensuring the safety of planting material during storage and forcing.

Morphological Indicators and Application

The plant reaches medium height, which is an optimal engineering solution for landscape design and commercial cut-flower production. This stem balance guarantees resistance to lodging during wind gusts while maintaining an elegant goblet shape. The pink petal color, combined with dense tissue texture, makes the variety highly sought after for formal flowerbeds. Utilizing 'Silverado' minimizes the need for chemical soil treatment due to its strong natural immune base, significantly lowering cultivation costs.
