Tulip Max Durand

Technical Profile of Max Durand

The Max Durand cultivar is a prominent representative of the Fringed tulip group. Its defining morphological feature is the intricate, needle-like fringe along the petal margins. From a biological standpoint, this structure increases the surface area for moisture evaporation, which necessitates precise irrigation management during the budding phase to ensure optimal turgor and structural integrity of the bloom.

Biological Defense and Resilience

The genetic makeup of Max Durand prioritizes structural resistance to common fungal pathogens, reducing the dependency on intensive chemical management. Key technical parameters include:

• Fungal Pathogen Resistance: The cultivar exhibits verified resistance to Phomopsis, Phoma, and Sunflower Rust. The density of the stem and leaf cuticle acts as a physical barrier against spore penetration.
• Peronospora Tolerance: The plant displays a robust defense mechanism against downy mildew, maintaining physiological health even in environments with high humidity and pressure from pathogenic inoculum.

Morphological Specifications

Classified as a tall, late-blooming variety, Max Durand is engineered for high-visibility landscape applications. The lilac pigmentation of the petals is characterized by high photostability, meaning the anthocyanin compounds resist degradation under intense solar radiation. This ensures that the aesthetic impact remains consistent throughout the duration of the late spring flowering window.
