Tulip La Courtine

Elegance of Late Bloom: La Courtine

In the world of classic tulips, the La Courtine variety occupies a special niche, representing the category of Single Late Tulips. This plant is the preferred choice for those who value prolonged blooming in late spring, long after early bulbous flowers have faded.

Visual Characteristics

The hallmark of La Courtine is its striking two-tone color pattern. Tall, sturdy stems carry buds where a rich yellow base color is complemented by dramatic red «tongues» or strokes. Due to its height, the variety is perfect for background landscape compositions and mass plantings where an accented vertical rhythm is needed.

Agronomic Resilience

One of the key features of this variety is its inherent vitality. La Courtine demonstrates excellent resistance to a range of pathogens that traditionally plague bulbous plants and related crops:

• High resistance to Alternaria and late blight;
• Protection against common scab and other scab species;
• Resistance to black leg;
• Adaptability to conditions prone to golden potato nematode infestation.

Such genetic resistance makes the variety a favorite for both professional florists and home gardeners looking to minimize fungicide use in ornamental gardening.

Market Position

La Courtine is a time-tested selection valued for its consistent shape and predictable growth patterns. Despite the abundance of new introductions, this variety remains a benchmark in the Single Late Tulip group. It is widely used for park landscaping, formal flower beds, and as cut flowers, as its strong stems ensure long-lasting durability in a vase. It is an ideal choice for climate zones requiring a hardy variety capable of resisting adverse soil conditions and high disease pressure.
