Tulip Fusarino

Genetic defense: why «Fusarino» dominates the professional segment

The success of Triumph tulip cultivation depends directly on the health of the root system. The «Fusarino» hybrid was developed as an answer to one of the biggest challenges in industrial floriculture—soil-borne pathogens. Unlike standard varieties, this tulip possesses built-in resistance to verticillium and fusarium wilt, which minimizes losses of planting material during storage and forcing.

Technical specifications and morphology

• Class: Triumph. A combination of a sturdy stem and a classic goblet-shaped bud.
• Flowering time: Mid-season. Optimal for filling supply gaps in the middle of the season.
• Height: Medium. An ideally balanced ratio of stem length to flower size, facilitating transport without breakage risks.
• Color: Intense pink, maintaining vibrancy under varying light levels.

The engineering advantage of this variety lies in its resistance to fungal infections. Fusarium oxysporum is traditionally the «silent killer» of bulbous crops, penetrating the basal plate and destroying the vascular system. The selection process for «Fusarino» resulted in lines with thickened outer scales and active synthesis of defensive enzymes that block mycelium development. For an agronomist, this means reduced fungicide costs and more predictable yield per square meter of greenhouse space.

When working with «Fusarino», it is important to note that its mid-season bloom requires thermal control. During sudden fluctuations in metabolic rates, the variety maintains stable bud form without premature opening. The density of the petals ensures excellent post-harvest shelf life, making it highly demanded in retail.
