Tomato Knyaz

Growing the «Knyaz» Tomato: Practical Insights

This is a classic plum-shaped tomato that thrives both in greenhouses and open fields. With a maturation period of 100-120 days, it requires some patience, but the result is a steady and predictable harvest.

Field Management and Maintenance

• Training and Pruning: The plant requires staking and pruning. Since the fruits grow in clusters, providing reliable support is essential to prevent stems from bowing under the weight of the crop.
• Fruit Specifications: This size is optimal for home canning. The skin is firm and resistant to cracking during thermal processing, which is a major advantage for those processing their own produce.
• Market Quality: The bright red color makes «Knyaz» a great choice for local markets. The fruits are transportable, maintaining their shape and integrity from the field to the point of sale.

Maintaining the «Knyaz» crop is straightforward: standard preventative measures against blight and timely watering are all it takes. Given the fruit weight, this variety is perfect for growers who prefer a compact, neat tomato that fits easily into jars and adds value to any salad. It is a reliable workhorse for any garden, providing consistent yields throughout the season.
