Tomato Ginger

Genetic potential of large-fruited tomatoes

The Ginger tomato seeds from the Dutch breeding company Enza Limited are oriented towards the professional segment of high-yield production. The hybrid's foundation lies in a strategic balance between vegetative development and generative load, which is critical when dealing with large-fruited varieties.

Technological fruit characteristics

The main emphasis in this hybrid is placed on fruit physiology:

• Weight specifications: A genetically determined weight exceeding 200 grams classifies Ginger as a large-fruited tomato, which is highly sought after in retail chains and the fresh produce segment.
• Post-harvest durability: Retaining marketable quality for up to 10 days after harvest provides a sufficient logistical buffer for delivering the produce to the end consumer without loss of tissue firmness.

The engineering approach of Enza Limited's breeders has helped mitigate typical issues associated with large-fruited hybrids, such as susceptibility to cracking and uneven ripening. The fruit structure features a dense yet juicy interior architecture that resists mechanical stress during transportation. The consistency of fruit size across all clusters is achieved through a robust root system and the plant's balanced metabolism, simplifying crop management in protected growing environments.
