Tomato Genery

Stability and Taste: Working with the Generi Tomato

When it comes to growing cherry tomatoes, the main challenge an agronomist faces is the balance between yield and the tendency of fruits to crack during harvest. Generi by Rijk Zwaan resolves this through superior genetics. This indeterminate hybrid requires careful pruning, but the labor investment pays off in high-quality yields.

Agronomics and Predictability

With a maturation period of up to 90 days, you can plan your supply chain without surprises. The plant is vigorous with strong growth energy, which is essential for professional greenhouse operations. The variety is convenient because the trusses form uniformly; the fruits, weighing up to 20 grams, stay firmly attached and do not drop when staff move through the rows.

• Shape and Structure: The round shape and firm skin ensure the fruits maintain their marketability for extended periods.
• Internal Quality: With 4–6 chambers, the fruit delivers the "meaty" taste highly valued in the cherry segment.
• Harvesting: The hybrid responds well to mineral nutrition and is not prone to excessive vegetative growth, making climate control in a greenhouse much easier to manage.

Maintenance is standard for indeterminate varieties: timely tying and suckering are key. If irrigation is managed properly, the fruits do not crack, and their deep red color remains vibrant even after long-distance transport. For producers aiming for the premium market, Generi is a reliable tool where every plant performs consistently.
