Tomato CHALMA

Commercial-Grade Performance for Greenhouse Production

The «Chalma» variety, developed by the Gavrish selection firm and the All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding (VNIIISSOK), is a reliable asset for growers focusing on large-fruited tomato production. As an indeterminate plant, it is specifically engineered for greenhouse environments, where maximizing vertical growth is essential for crop management and yield density.

Practical Insights for Growers

For operations looking to optimize output, «Chalma» offers several technical advantages:

• Plant Management: Due to its indeterminate nature, this variety requires diligent pruning and staking. This labor input is rewarded with fruits consistently exceeding 200 grams, maintaining high quality throughout the season.
• Logistics and Durability: The plum shape (pear-shaped) combined with firm skin ensures that the tomatoes can withstand transport and long-term storage without significant bruising or deformation, making them ideal for commercial distribution.
• Production Scheduling: With a maturation window of 100–120 days, the variety allows for better planning of harvest cycles, ensuring a steady flow of product to market.

Professional agronomists prioritize this variety for operations where physical fruit quality must match market demand for large, red, and visually appealing produce. «Chalma» fits perfectly into high-intensity greenhouse systems where space efficiency is paramount. By choosing a variety with documented heritage and stable genetics, farmers can ensure a predictable harvest cycle and meet the needs of wholesale buyers who require high-density, high-volume supply.
