Tomato Koleos

Technical Analysis of the «Koleos» Tomato Hybrid

The «Koleos» tomato, developed by the Turkish breeding firm Yuksel Tohum A.S., is an indeterminate hybrid engineered for high-performance greenhouse environments. The genetic architecture of this variety focuses on the intersection of vegetative vigor and fruit development, enabling stable yields of large fruits exceeding 200 grams.

Structural Fruit Integrity and Logistics

The plum-shaped (elongated) geometry of the Koleos fruit is a direct consequence of its dense cell wall structure. In commercial production, this density is a critical engineering feature that ensures high transportability and mechanical integrity during harvest, handling, and distribution. The vibrant red hue is the result of optimized lycopene synthesis, meeting premium market quality standards.

• Indeterminate Growth Habit: Requires systematic pruning and trellising, allowing greenhouse operators to maximize vertical space efficiency.
• Maturity Timeline: 90–100 days from transplanting. This mid-season maturity profile provides consistent supply in extended production cycles.
• Weight and Grading: With fruits averaging over 200 grams, the hybrid demands precision fertigation, particularly during the fruit-filling stage, to ensure uniform sizing and avoid nutrient deficits.

Field experience with Koleos indicates that under controlled climate conditions and proper nutrient management, the plant exhibits exceptional uniformity. The fruit's resistance to cracking, even under fluctuating humidity levels, marks it as a robust solution for professional agricultural technologists who prioritize output stability and post-harvest durability.
