Tomato BLONDIE

Practical insights on growing the «Blondie» tomato

Working with indeterminate varieties from Greenomica requires a clear strategy. «Blondie» is a mid-to-late season performer, taking 120–130 days to mature. This implies that the grower must prioritize early transplanting and strict greenhouse management to maximize the yield before the season ends. This is not a "set it and forget it" plant; it requires active management of its vegetative growth.

Growth management and plant maintenance

The primary task when dealing with this indeterminate variety is pruning. Without strict control, the plant will quickly put all its energy into leaf mass rather than fruit development. Given that the cylindrical fruits weigh between 150 and 200 grams, they place significant stress on the clusters. Proper staking and tying are mandatory to prevent stem damage and ensure the fruit develops its characteristic shape.

• Plant Training: The best results are observed when growing in two main stems. This balances the load and ensures that fruit maturation remains consistent across the whole plant.
• Hydration: The variety is sensitive to moisture fluctuations in the root zone. Consistent irrigation is the key to preventing cracking and ensuring the dense flesh that makes this variety commercially viable.
• Nutrient Management: During the fruit-setting stage, prioritizing potassium is essential. It directly affects the color intensity and the overall shelf life of the harvested tomatoes.

From an operational standpoint, «Blondie» offers predictable yields per square meter. Its high resistance to common pathogens helps streamline the spraying schedule, which is a major advantage for budget management. Harvesting is straightforward; the uniform cylindrical shape makes grading and packing highly efficient with minimal waste. This is a solid choice for growers who value consistent fruit size and high-quality appearance.
